Sutherland plays John Murdoch, a man who wakes up in a hotel room under questionable circumstances with no memory. Suspected by the police of murder, he flees and tries to slowly reconstruct the fractured pieces of his past. Pursued by the police and mysterious beings with psychokinetic powers known as the Strangers, Murdoch soon meets his wife Emma (Jennifer Connelly) and realizes he possesses the same powers as his enemies. He must use his newfound abilities to uncover the sinister cause of the oddities in the world as time, memory, and space seem to defy natural law.
