Description:

I think this entire series of games is magnificent, and it's not for delicate souls. The violent actions in the games state the same thing. These games have a lot to offer. Although it's the good old punching sounds you all probaby know, the pictures are sure gorry. Of someone getting limbs ripped off, electricuted. The fatalities are also quite new in the series, and are far the best! It is a combination of buttons which you enter as the dictator says "Finish him!" when fighting the final round. These as far as I'm aware, are implemented in Deadly Alliance (DA) Deception (De) and Armageddon. The sounds in general, of blood flowing out of the opponent and onto the ground...the torturous screams, and the music. I don't deny that you don't get an adrenalin rush when playing this one! I definitely recommend it. It also has different stages and death traps. These also in the two latest. Be aware of the stage you're in - something unexpected might kill you or take away a lot of your health.:) It's a series consisting of four. Mortal Kombat - Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat - Shaolin Munks, Mortal Kombat - Deception and the latest Mortal Kombat - Armageddon. This is not a review, but rather a quick describtion of what Mortal Kombat is, for starters. I'll go into details when reviewing the other two games, Deception and Armageddon. Remember, folks...this is not a review, but just a describtion of everything.

Reviews:

Mortal Kombat, Deception 6 out of 6 stars [ ? ]

I am going to talk a little about Deception.

Music 10/10

I am raiting sound at 10, because of the great sound in general and the awesome music. Nothing wrong with it...and it totally fits the stage you're in, whether it be the happy/dark stage that can all of a sudden change from happy dance music to this dark thing that just scream "I'll deliver your heart on a silver platter."

Sound 4/10

As usual, nothing has really changed here. The punching sounds are pretty much the same, although new things have been added. Things such as falling into death traps do have good sounds, and pretty new...although the voices that the characters have aren't all different. A lot of it is recorded with the voice of someone who's already done voiceovers for a character, so that's really not too good. And hey...what else do you expect but "UGH!" "AHH!" and "OH" in a fighting game?

Stages 10/10

I totally love these! Stages and especially...death traps that they contain.:) It's pure evil!

Stand on a certain point in the area...pop someone into the air...and POW!!! He's either dead, or very very hurt. That's just one example. I believe they can be run over by machines as well. The character details are better in Deadly Alliance, but it's worth dulling the details of the characters if you're going to detail all stages so magnificently well. It's great, and the arenas look so beautiful. You can even damage them! The 3 stance fighting style is back from DA. Now, each stage is interactive. A lot of them hold Death traps, traps that when if someone is thrown into, they automatically lose the round, weapons that are insanely powerful and contain their own set of combos, and even multiple levels. The designers really cranked up the interactivity
in levels. Now, it actually MATTERS what level your playing and it can even effect your strategy in the fight.

Konquest Mode 5/10

Konquest, returning from DA, is totally revamped. Now, you journey through the world of Mortal Kombat as Shujinko, one of the new characters to the series. Here you will encounter all of your favorite characters and learn how to play as them. Konquest plays two roles. 1st, as a tutorial, you
basically get to learn how to play as each of the characters in the game. 2nd, as the story aspect of the game. Here you will learn what happens in the life of Shujinko and how he affects the world of Mortal Kombat. Thankfully, even though its heavy in tutorials, its very fun to play. It could seriously be sold as a game in itself. However...I can't see it, and it's hard to navigate because I don't know where things are. Also, the voice acting is horible. It sounds like the actors and actresses are just reading the lines out flat, without putting a feel into it. It pretty much earns a 5 for that.

The story 9/10

The story takes place right after DA ends. Basically, every fighter failed to defeat the Deadly Alliance. Raiden tries to take on both of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, but fails. Just as the two sorcerer's start to turn on each other for control of the Dragon King's army, the actual Dragon King walks in. The two sorcerer's try to defeat him, and even with Raidens help, can't hold him back. In one final attempt to defeat the Dragon King, Raiden creates a huge explosion, only to destroy himself, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. The Dragon King, Onaga, has now returned and is now in control of his army once again. To play this character, you'll need a cheating device to release him. You can, however, play against him. He acts as the boss when playing the Arcade mode. As far as I know, on a side note...you don't earn anything, except money for the crypt to unlock things, if you have a profile.

Alright, its not William Shakespeare, but it is a decent story for a fighting game. The endings aren't bad, but Konquest is where you find the story. You start as a young boy named Shujinko who is about to start martial arts training.
Once you complete this basic training, Damashi, a messenger from the Elder Gods comes to you with a Quest. During this quest, you will visit all the different realms in the MK universe and progressively grow older. This tale takes place all the way from MK1 to DA. It is pretty cool indeed.

Game play 9/10

Ahh! Here we are!:)

Game play is pretty much the same as Deadly Alliance, and I still hate that the combos have to be typed in all the way, before it is even executed. So if an opponent dodges something, they get a free hit. That's the only thing...otherwise, it's really great. New modes have also been added.

Such as Puzzle Kombat.

Basically, colored blocks fall and the goal is to collect all of the same color together to get rid of them. Before this happens though, you choose your character. These miniature characters fight it out while you play and can even help you by using special techniques that either help you or harm your opponent.

Chess Kombat

The idea is that you play chess with your favorite MK characters, but instead of normal chess where the attacking piece automatically takes the square, you play Mortal Kombat between the two pieces and whoever wins, takes the square. This makes it much more fun than what first appears.

Also, not to forget, the Krypt is back. Although it isn't as big as the one in DA, it is a bit better. The better unlockables in the Krypt can only be unlocked when you find the certain key in Konquest mode, giving another reason to play through it. A lot of things are waitin' fo ya down here!

Fatalities 7/10

This is also new, and implemented in Deadly Alliance game in the MK series. It's basically a button combination that you put in, when the dictator says "Finish him!!!" It will then execute something that kills the opponent outright. In Deception and Armageddon, though, something even better has been implemented. It's called 'Hara-Kiri', which acts as a suicide move of the opponent or you when death is on its way to claim the target. When announcer says "Finish him!" enter the suicidal combination before the opponent enters anything. You can imagine that this has to be done fairly fast. Everyone who's about to die can do this, whether it be opponent, or simply you.

I really don't think I'm missing anything here. Mortal Kombat is nice!
