Description:
Thinking that a relaxing stay at a mental institution is a lot better then being behind bars, the small time criminal Randle P. McMurphy makes a convincing act as a nutcase. People today normally cringe when they hear that a book they love is being made into a movie, but Milos Forman (Amadeus, The People vs. Larry Flynt) did such an amazing job with One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, one of Ken Kesey's best works. Jack Nicholson stars as Randall Patrick McMurphy, a streetwise rebel who gets himself put into a mental institution to get out of prison. Thinking that the looney bin will be a cakewalk to serve out the rest of his sentence, McMurphy soon discovers that not only does he still not have rights, but now he is under the watchful eye of the notorious Nurse Mildred Ratched (Louise Fletcher), who takes pleasure in playing the part of mother to this cast of crazies and sociopaths.
Soon McMurphy decides he's had enough and does everything he can to try and escape while simultaneously trying to convince his new friends that they aren't as crazy as they think they are. This is probably one of the best movies ever made and served as a platform for some of entertainment's best wierdos including Danny DeVito, Christophe Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli (a name you don't know but a face you can't forget), and the ever-present-in-all-movies-from-the-70's; Scatman Crothers. If you haven't read the book (which i recommend over the film) this film does an incredible job at recreating the brooding and tense feeling of the book while still pulling off the nonsense of the situation with the humor that can only come from a bunch of professional nut jobs.
