This is the real story about Ralp Waldo "Petey" Greene Jr. who in the mid to late 60's talks his way into an on-air radio gig with the support of his girlfriend Vernell. Having spent some time in jail he gains friendship and partnership with a fellow inmate Dewey Hughes. During his time on the radio, Petey becomes a popular personality topping established disc jockeys like Nighthawk and Sunny Jim. Combining sharp humor and social commentary, he made himself heard.

He spoke up for himself heard, but even more so his community in a very turbulent time of American history. People would tune in to his show to hear great music of the 60's, but also to hear him talk about racial issues and power in America. Don Cheadle portrays Petey and Chiwetel Ejiofor playes Dewey in this funny, inspiring drama.
