Resident Evil Code: Veronica follows the story several months after the events of Resident Evil 3. The game allows players to take control of siblings Claire and Chris Redfield respectively as they take the fight to the Umbrella Corporation to expose their crimes to the world and shut them down for good. Veronica is the first game in the series to feature fully 3D polygonal environments instead of pre-rendered backgrounds; however the game still largely employs fixed camera perspectives.

Claire Redfield was captured by Umbrella during a raid on their Paris headquarters and sent to their prison on Rockfort Island. Teaming up with a fellow inmate, she manages to escape the island on a plane but the autopilot takes her to an Umbrella research facility in Antarctica. Chris arrives at Rockfort Island to find his sister gone and his old nemesis Albert Wesker once again pursuing his own agenda. Claire and Chris learn the true history behind Umbrella and its operations and must thwart a maniac infected with a new more deadly form of the virus for the sake of humanity.
