Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a science fiction action-adventure film set in a futuristic 1939. The film is notable in that all the environments and scenes were rendered digitally, with the actors superimposed over the shots.

The movie stars Jude Law as Joe Sullivan, also known as Sky Captain, who leads the “Flying Legion,” a private air combat squadron. Along with former lover and reporter for the The Chronicle, Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow), Sky Captain fends off New York City from an attack by towering robots. Investigating the source of the attacks, the duo learns that renowned scientists are disappearing at the hands of a mysterious Dr. Totenkopf (a posthumous Lawrence Olivier). The heroes set out on a globe spanning adventure to uncover the nature of Totenkopf’s plot and arrest his ambitions.
