Transformers fans rejoice, Michael Bay has truly lived up to most expectations and made this movie truly interesting to watch with lots of explosions and nifty special effects expected from a Michael Bay film. Shia LaBeouf is excellent if a bit dorky as Sam Witwicky (at least they kept the surname if not the first name) who just as in the original series, befriends Bumblebee (who's been reformatted into a Camaro due to licensing issues) and consequently gets dragged into the eternal war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. A nice gesture to the original series we know and love is of course Optimus Prime, who sounds just like well... Optimus Prime. Hugo Weaving weaves a great performance as Megatron, (sounds almost like the original) and Starscream is just... plain... cool... Ironhide, Jazz and Ratchet (all reimagined) also make an appearance on the Autobot side and Barricade (new), Frenzy (reimagined), Blackout (new), Scorponok (reimagined), Bonecrusher (reimagined) and Brawl (renamed Devastator) form the lineup for the Decepticons. Overall the movie moves at a good pace apart from some dorky scenes when Sam tries to get the girl, and does so with some help from a 'love bug' but hey, we were all young once, transformation scenes totally rock and they kept the original beepy tones from the series for the transformations. Way cool movie. Transformers fans will enjoy, and many new people will be inspired to be Transformers fans. Autobots! Transform and roll out!

Who says the summer blockbuster is dead? 6 out of 6 stars [ ? ]

The kid in you will scream for joy!

Man! I went into this movie with high hopes (as did little beer, my son) and was not disappointed. The action was some of the best I have seen. Very good use of slow motion (but not over cheesy use), great camera angles, and finally a movie that understand we can have action without GOD-aweful 1-liners (my pet peave). I absolutely loved this movie.

I was too old to get into the original Transformers (had moved on from guns and lightsabers to thinking girls were the most awesome thing in the Universe), but I knew some about the original series from my little brother. The writers did a great job with staying fairly close to the original story, while adding a few new twists and revamps to chars. All the favorites were there and done extremely well. The CGI on the transformations were ridiculously good. And the intermingling of CGI characters with the actors were seemless.

All in all you have to see this movie on a good big screen. I don't think I can wait on the DVD to see it again myself (I know little beer can't). Will be the first movie since LOTR that I have gone back for a second helping in the theatres.

Oh yeah and Megan Fox as Mikaela is just too dang hot. If the movie had to have some eye-candy, they did a good choice. And cudos to the writers and actors of not going screamer nor over-blown tough chick with her character. Did a great job of combining sexy with "bad girl". She can fix my car anytime.......

A Strong Title 5 out of 6 stars [ ? ]

Well I waited for this movie with great anticipation, and I was happy with it when it was released. The film is quite long, but not in a Lord of the Rings: Return of the King sense that're you're very aware you've been sat in the same place for 16 days watching the same film. It's a nice length that is filled well with a balance of action, and back story.
I was a little disappointed with the lack of Transformer battles. Whenever the Autobots and Decepticons fought each other the camera seemed to shake and turn a lot, quite quickly. This is good in some ways, but when they did battle I found it very hard to actually see what was going on, and even then the fights only lasted a few seconds at most, even the big finale.
But just watching it as a film is very satisfying. As I said before, it has a good mix of action, story, character detail and also it;s quite funny in parts, though you may find yourself cringing at some rather cheesey bits. I'd recommend this film to most people, giving it 5/6 on the dice-o-meter. The special 3 disc edition can be worth it for the die hard fans, as it explains a lot of the back story, and I found it to almost be a lengthy cartooon episode.
