Descent: Freespace- The Great War
From Interplay comes one of the new space sims attempting to break the market grip X-wing and Wing Commander hold- Descent: Freespace. A solid game offering a 30-mission single-player game with multiple plot branches, as well as 20 stand-alone multiplayer missions alone make this game one worth playing.
Freelancer
A powerful new simulation game that lives up to its name, allowing you to 'freelance' outside the game storylines, just like the older classics Elite and Privateer. Mouse-based gameplay eliminates the need for a joystick entirely, allowing both newbies and experts in the simulation genre to just 'jump right in' on a smooth learning curve. LAN or server play allows for an immersive multiplayer experience in addition to the 14-mission campaign.
Freespace 2
Building on the success of its predecessor, Freespace 2 gives even more to love then the original. 40 single-player missions give incredible single-player playtime, and multi-player with multiple options for massive fun is included. Graphics are no slouch either.
Independence War II
Particle Systems' Independence War II is an even greater success then its predecessor, allowing you to take command of a variety of capital vessels in your quest for piratical revenge against the great corporations of the galaxy that have destroyed your family. Realistic Newtonian physics and an open-ended storyline make this game a must for space-simulation fans.
Silent Hunter 4 - Wolves Of The Pacific
Build and commandeer a submarine crew and win glory and honour in the fight for the pacific in this captivating game. Earn experience and upgrades to help you in the fight. Various types of missions in more than 15 different locations. Solid multiplayer options both in LAN and online. Spectacular sound effects and realistic graphics makes this a grea experience.
Spaceforce: Rogue Universe
An enormous combined roleplaying and space shooter, Spaceforce gives you the opportunity to explore an enormous galaxy with over 2,000 side quests or a story-driven campaign. Your own starship can be upgraded and enhanced with components purchased with money gained through missions. Beautiful graphics and enormous replay value add to an already interesting game.
Star Trek: Legacy
Released on the anniversary of 40 years of Star Trek, Legacy lets you as the player take on the roles of the five captains of Star Trek mythos. From the small NX-01 to the mighty Enterprise-E, the starships are faithfully rendered in 3-D with a variety of missions ranging from simple 'search and destroy' to 'save the planets'. Multiple weapons systems and an interesting plot add to the fun.
Star Trek: Starfleet Command III
A combined strategy-simulation game set in the Next Generation Star Trek universe, Starfleet Command III gives you the opportunity to command warships, whether they be lumbering Sovereigns, Neg'Vars or Galaxies, or tiny Mirands or Birds of Prey. A points-based parts system lets you mix and match ship designs to your heart's content, while four different races give you interesting campaigns.
Starshatter: The Gathering Storm
Starshatter lets you play as a fighter pilot in a universe in which the missile is king, and combat is a game of dodge-and-countermeasure, hoping desperately to lock onto your opponent before he does you. Command both tiny fighters and enormous command vessels in the struggle to protect your homeworld. Fly even atmospheric missions on the way, as well as patrol and shipping raid missions. For anyone who loved the original Starshatter, this one rocks.
