The big news recently is that script writers have gone on strike, which may badly affect TV series that we all love. Yes, you heard me right, the Writers Guild of America is on strike. The main reason is that the writers want their share of what goes on digitally and online, as more and more media goes online. Hopefully this will be resolved soon, or many shows will have to cut down on seasons episodes or push them back.
The autumn season is now well underway with a lot of shows having just started their journey, while some are nearing the end of their journey. Heroes is in it’s second season now, but seing viewer ratings going down a bit. Critics point to too many characters and lack of direction. Hopefully things will pick up towards the end to give the viewers what they want! Personally, I haven’t started watching season 2 yet, but will have to get into that very soon. Damn gaming is keeping me from it.
A show I have been watching, though, is Dexter, which also is in it’s second season. This show keeps amazing me with it’s excellent acting, brilliant storyline and great humor. I can see this show going on for a long time. It’s original, feeling fresh in the jungle of tv shows we have to choose from.
I came across some amazing news today while browsing the great thing that is the internet. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Joss Whedon fan, having Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer high on my list of top TV series. Whedon has been off the radar since he dropped the Wonderwoman project, but news are now emerging about a new show starring one of the former Buffy stars, Eliza Dushku, called Dollhouse, is in the works and 7 episodes are planned to air on Fox sometime next year. Yes, you read it, Fox Networks. Apparently, Whedon is going to work with them again, as he claims they now have a whole new bunch of guys making the decisions. I still must say I’m quite surprised though. There’s also mentions of work being done on the spinoff from Buffy, Ripper, that’s been something Whedon has wanted to do for a long time.
In other TV related news, sort of anyway, it’s now official that there will be a secon X-Files movie set to air 25th of July 2008. This sequal to the 1998 movie that grossed almost $200 million is said to feature a standalone storyline, and will have both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully. Chris Carter, the original director, is set to direct this movie also. Great news for the X-Files fans around the world.
